UMI
2025
Tierra Umi Wilson, known professionally as UMI, is a Seattle-born singer-songwriter Grokipedia who blends R&B, neo-soul, and diary-like storytelling Vivid Seats into something that feels less like a performance and more like a conversation. Born to a Japanese mother and Black father, her stage name translates to "ocean" in Japanese Grokipedia, and her music carries that same sense of calm and depth. Her set at Northeastern was warm and unscripted — she talked with the crowd between songs, shared stories, and even previewed unreleased tracks that hadn't been heard anywhere else. These frames capture that energy: an artist genuinely enjoying the moment, connecting with fans, and letting the music breathe in a room that felt more like a living room than a venue.
